Elon Musk got the big domain name AI.com, which was owned by the creators of ChatGPT. Now this address leads to the website of xAI, a machine learning startup launched by Elon Musk.
It is not entirely clear why OpenAI decided to sell the domain. They may have decided that ChatGPT is already so famous that they don't need such a domain, but the money they could get for it would help.
These domains typically cost millions or tens of millions of dollars. Last year, the IT.com domain was sold for more than $3.8 million.
