BIG: AI agents on phones in China are about to get tighter rules 👀
China's MIIT has announced new rules for phones with AI agents.
If a phone comes with an AI agent built in, it must pass a compatibility test and an anti scam check before it gets approval to sell. The scam check is there to keep users safe from fraud. Every agent also gets its own unique ID code.
If a brand wants to push an agent update over the air, it must first send the plan to the government. Only after an expert review, users get the update.
And apps get the final say. An AI agent cannot open or control any app unless the app developer agrees. App stores must also show which phones an agent works with.
