New testing by HOMOLAB:
→ the 1TB and 2TB model uses QLC storage, the cheaper kind
→ The 1TB and 2TB model can hit over 3,000 MB/s at first, but speeds drop hard once the cache fills. It averaged 79.4 MB/s in one test and fell to 1.1 MB/s.
→ at 60% full it touches 1.1 MB/s - as slow as an old SD card
→ the 256GB and 512GB models come with TLC, the faster storage
→ the 256GB model costs $600 less and is still faster
→ even the 512GB iPhone 18 Pro beat the 1TB in every test, by up to 38%
In simple terms:-
- QLC = more storage in less space.
But it can be slower during heavy, long writes.
- TLC generally offers better endurance.
You pay more for extra storage but you get slower performance when moving large files.

A user bought an iPad Air M2 (WiFi) in June 2024, and a few days ago white patches suddenly appeared on the screen. There is no external damage and no liquid damage.
