🚨 India is planning to build its own Samsung, Vivo, or Xiaomi.

• India could see its first strong indigenous smartphone brand by mid-2027.

• The government has launched a ₹62,500 crore scheme to support Indian smartphone brands.

• The scheme will support Indian brands, product design, R&D, and local sourcing.

• Indian brands must have more than 51% Indian ownership to qualify.

• India already makes 99.2% of the mobile phones sold in the country.

• Indian brands once had around 35% market share in 2015 but now have less than 1%.

• Lava is expected to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the new scheme.

• The government aims to create ₹39 lakh crore worth of mobile phone production and 60,000 direct jobs in five years.

🚨 The GST Council is reportedly considering cutting the current 18% GST on mobile phones.

The move comes as smartphone demand in India has slowed down.

Phone shipments fell by 10 to 11% between April and June this year. This was the biggest fall in a June quarter in six years.

The government also wants to make sure that high taxes do not hurt mobile phone manufacturing in India.

India produced mobile phones worth around ₹6.27 lakh crore in FY26.

It is not final yet.

The government recently approved a ₹62,500 crore scheme to boost mobile phone manufacturing in the country.

Claude accidentally deleted a developer’s entire 700 GB home directory while testing a script designed to prevent exactly that.

Developer Sebastien Guillemot was asking Claude to create a cleanup script for temporary files.
During a safety test, the model was automatically downgraded to an older model, Opus 4.8.

The test correctly identified the home directory as dangerous, but a variable mix-up meant the cleanup process ended up deleting it anyway.

About 700 GB of data was wiped, including roughly a week of work, Guillemot managed to recover most of it from Git
