• Three homegrown companies are in talks with the government to launch smartphone brands under the new ₹62,500 crore manufacturing scheme
• A new Indian smartphone brand could enter the market as early as next year
• The scheme requires at least 51% Indian ownership and Indian-owned smartphone IP
• Chinese brands currently account for nearly 68% of smartphone sales in India
• The government will offer incentives to boost local manufacturing, R&D and component sourcing
