Why can’t non-Chinese companies compete with the Chinese?

The main reason is supply chain control.

After WhatsApp announced the rollout of its Instagram-like “username feature”, the Indian government raised concerns regarding impersonation.

- The Indian government is examining WhatsApp's username feature over impersonation and identity fraud concerns.
- Authorities are exploring legal options and may issue a notice to Meta if the feature is found to pose risks.
- Officials will assess whether stronger safeguards are needed before the feature is rolled out in India.
- WhatsApp says usernames are meant to improve privacy by letting users connect without sharing phone numbers.

Because they rely on their own apps, services, ads, and ecosystems, brands earn extra revenue

Outside China in markets like India, Android phones depend on Google services, so brands cannot use the same subsidy model

As a result, phones in China are sold cheaper to boost ecosystem lock-in

The Chinese smartphone market is massive and brands sell extremely high volumes

These huge volumes let them keep prices lower, which is not possible in India

Why Phones Are Costlier in India Now

India’s smartphone market is already saturated and growing very slowly

Companies are struggling to sell big volumes like before

So brands follow a new strategy:

Sell fewer phones, but at a higher price to maintain profit

But here is the real problem:

Consumer income is not rising

So fewer people are buying expensive new phones
