India takes another major step towards satellite internet.
The Department of Telecommunications has released draft rules for administrative spectrum assignment under the Telecommunications Act, 2023.
These draft rules are a significant step towards operational spectrum assignment for satellite operators such as Starlink, Eutelsat OneWeb, and Amazon's Project Kuiper.
The draft also lays down eligibility criteria, the application process, spectrum assignment terms, and the methodology for determining spectrum charges.
Public comments have been invited for 30 days before the rules are finalized.
