A modified version of Telegram is being distributed by a third-party Android app store called "APKPure," masquerading as the official app. This altered version includes a malicious class known as "DataCollector" that gathers extensive personal information. Additionally, it contains a hardcoded IP address linked to a server located in Hong Kong, China.
Furthermore, APKPure's latest so-called stable update for Telegram remains at v12.6.5 from May 9, 2026, while the actual stable version has been updated to v12.7.3 on May 15, 2026—indicating that APKPure offers modified builds.
Upon reviewing the legitimate stable build of Telegram, I found no trace of any "DataCollector" class despite claims suggesting its presence in the official application.
