What is a Wordle?
A Wordle is simply a word cloud that can be great resource to teachers.
✔️This post will look at a number of ways they can be used in the ESL classroom.

💎#Grammar
Wordles can be a great way to introduce grammar. Not only can you use them to introduce a grammatical structure but you can also use them for revision. They are a great way to revise grammar in groups or individually.

Method:
1. Go to wordle.net.
2. Write a sentence that you want your class to study.
3. Give the Wordle to the students (or project it on the board!). They must reorganise the sentence in groups.

💎Summarize A Text
Before class copy the text from a #reading to be covered in class. Paste the text into wordle.net and create a Wordle with the key words from the text.
This can then be shown to your class. In pairs, they have to decide what the text is going to be about. As an additional exercise, you can get your class to write a headline based on the Wordle.

💎#Writing
Wordles can be a great way to improve students writing skills. Make a Wordle from students writing. Show it to the class and see which words are used most, how could they improve the vocabulary etc.
Create two or more Wordles of the same writing task and get your class to compare the language used.

💎Revision
Wordles are a great way to revise key #vocabulary covered in a unit. At the end of a unit, create Wordles with key words from the unit to help students remember key vocabulary. Wordle allows you to arrange the vocabulary alphabetically too.

💎Amazingly perfect &fun!💎

“The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds…”
France, Anatole
💡💡💡💡
This post is going to offer some suggestions as to how you can create #curiosity in the classroom.
#Game #Icebreakers #Warmers

💡Riddles
U could write one riddle on the board before class starts. This is a great way to get students who arrive early something to think about before we start.
Examples:
Answers R at the bottom of this post!😁
How many people are buried in cemeteries?
What gets wetter and wetter the more it dries?
What can you catch but you can’t throw?

💡Ciphers
Ciphers are great for young learners, especially those who are mathematically minded. They are easy to set up and a great way to revise the alphabet and spelling and vocabulary. You assign a number to a letter so A=1, B=2, C=3 etc and write coded messages on the board or get the kids to write their own in English and get their friends to crack the code!🥰😇

💡Word Squares
#Alphabet #Beginners
Simply write 9 letter in a square on the board. Your class then have to create as many words as they can in a given number of time. This can be done in pairs or individually.

💡Numbers in my Life
In this activity, students choose three numbers that are significant in their lives. After, students try to guess the meaning of a volunteers numbers. If the class cannot guess the significance the student tell the students what those numbers mean to them.
This activity is a great ice breaker and a simple way to introduce the teacher to the students and then have the students introduce themselves to the class.😊

😬Riddle answers: 1. All of them! 2. A towel 3. A cold

How to teach pronunciation

Here is one activity that u could do for practicing pronunciation with your Ss....Check out the #web at the end of this post to find out more activities like this😉😘 I’ve also posted one cool game for pronunciation on my instagram page...JOIN & ENJOY 😍

Odd One Out
Put similar words into groups of three—two with one sound, and one with a different (although similar) sound. Or you could have groups of four or five which contain the same sound, but only one that’s different. For example:

meet, seat, sit (for vowels)
plays, pace, space(for consonants)

The selection of the odd word can be a #reading exercise—where students read the words to themselves out loud and identify the sounds in the written words—or a #listening exercise—where the teacher reads the words and the students respond to the “odd” word.
Likewise, selected students could try reading the words aloud for others to identify the odd word, or they could work in pairs or small groups with one person pronouncing the words and the others indicating which is odd.
There are a number of different activities you could run with these groups of words—depending on the ages and abilities of your class, and your classroom arrangement.
• Ask the students individually to read through the word groups and pick which words have different sounds.

• Ask the students to discuss the groups of words with a partner and decide which one is odd.

• Divide the class into two teams, in two lines, and ask the person whose turn it is to choose the odd word as you read them out loud.

• Make the question part of another game like Tic Tac Toe. The team or individual whose turn it is to place an X or an O must first pick the odd one out. They proceed with their turn if they choose the right word. If they can’t identify the odd word, then they lose their turn.

Play Run and Grab (check website👇🏻) putting the words on the board and having participants run up to pick the odd word.

‼️15 Different ways for a simple “true/false” question‼️

Some of my fav ...👇🏻😍😄
So much fun than just writen T/F tests 👌🏻

1. My hands never lie

Students hide a small object like an eraser in their right hand if they are going to say something true and in their left hand if they are going to say something false, and then make their statement (e.g. “My father worked in a circus”) and see if their partner can guess which hand the object is in, i.e. whether their statement is true or not. You can specify the topic and/ or grammar they should use to tie in with the text if you like.

3. True False Target Practice
Students have to listen to the sentences and throw something (e.g. a screwed up piece of paper) at the target marked “True” or the target marked “False” as quickly as possible. The first student or team to hit the correct target gets a point. This works best if you have a couple of sticky balls (= sucker balls) and divide the whiteboard into two halves.
🙈SO FUN!🙉

5. True False Stand Up Sit Down
This game is like True False Stations, but students have to stand up for “true” (or stay standing up if the previous sentence was true too) and sit down (or stay sitting down) for false. You can also play the game with other (possibly sillier) actions like touching parts of your body or standing on your left or right leg.

14. Yes to everything
The students have to reply yes to every Yes/ No question they are asked, e.g. “Yes, I have” to every “Have you ever..?” question- including “Have you ever jumped out of a plane?” etc. They then answer 3 follow up Wh- question about it, and the other students then guess whether the original “Yes” answer was true or false.

How to Get Students to Talk in Class?

DECENTRALIZE
• Get them talking to each other, not just to you.
...
SHARE THE AUTHORITY
• Have students nominate topics for discussion at the beginning of a class.
...
CONSIDER YOUR QUESTIONS
• Try not to use rhetorical questions or “yes/no” “agree/disagree” questions.
...
GIVE THEM TIME TO THINK
Begin the class by giving students five to ten minutes to write on a topic relevant to the discussion.
...
RESPOND TO “OFF TARGET” COMMENTS ENCOURAGINGLY
• Even if the comment is completely wrong or “off the wall,” thank the student for sharing their idea and find a way to link their concept back on the correct track of discussion.
...
USE STRATEGIC BODY LANGUAGE
• Literally push your chair away from the table during the discussion, signaling that the forum is now theirs.
...
TAKE NOTES WHEN STUDENTS ARE SPEAKING
• This shows them that you value what they say and are learning from them.
...
USE ACTIVE LEARNING STRATEGIES...

Even in today’s digital world, books are still one of the best ways to learn about almost anything you can think of. There’s just one problem: There are a bazillion different books on a kajillion different subjects out there, and some of them are better than others. With over 40 million members, Goodreads is basically the Facebook of, well, books. Their mission is to get the right book in the right hands at the right time, whether it’s fiction, nonfiction, or self-help. No matter what your interests, the free Goodreads app can probably point you toward the perfect book to help you learn whatever it is you want to learn. You can read reviews from other readers, and share good reads of your own.
