Luke 6:47-48 “We can weather any storm with God’s words as our foundation”

This is a powerful verse that parallels the purpose of this book and ministry.
God is our umbrella through the storm; he shelters us from the rain and keeps us warm.  The umbrella is the analogy that God protects us with every step and every breath of life.  He is with us even if we feel alone and nothing is working for us, with us, or in us.  Storms in life continually happen, whether it is marriage, work, or even spiritual storms we are continually battered by the rain of life.  The closer one is with God’s word and their spiritual walk with him the easier the storm is to weather.  When one faces adversity they tend to go in the path of least resistance and the quickest fix.  Tendency is that the path of least resistance isn’t always the correct course or direction for your life.

Umbrellas also keep you dry from the rain.  Keeping yourself dry is a way to stay warm.  When you are in the wild the key is to stay dry, you don’t know if you will be able to find fire or even start a fire.  When you have the word of God as your strength and shelter he keeps you warm and dry from the storm.  The closer you hold the umbrella to you the more it shelters you from the storm and warms your soul.  The everyday grind of your life is a battle with the devil and sin, you occasionally get wet from the rain and it simulates the devil trying to pull you from the protection of your creator.  Stepping out from under the protection of the umbrella of God is just like you stepping out into the flesh.

There are multiple layers of an umbrella that make it whole.  You need all parts of the umbrella to keep you dry and help you stay dry and walk a life to emulate the life of Jesus Christ.  Jesus is the one and only person to ever live a life without sin and gave the ultimate sacrifice so you and I could live.  If someone was asked if they would lay down their life for the one that they love would most certainly say that they would sacrifice themselves for their loved one.  This is what Jesus did for you and I, this is why we need to try to walk the path of righteousness.  This is a different look on how you need the umbrella of Gods protection like a shield to fight off the evil in the world and protect you in battle.

Umbrellas date back even before ancient Egypt (http://www.umbrellahistory.net).  This is a great example of why I use the analogy of the umbrella for Gods protection of us.  In ancient Egypt umbrellas were used not only for protection from the sun but as a symbol of wealth.  This umbrella and the mission “Umbrellas for Christ” is showing the wealth of Jesus Christ and how much he sacrificed for you and me so we could have eternal life.  This also symbolizes the riches that we inherit in heaven after we die on Earth and live life eternally with the Father.  The umbrella not only protects us on earth from the elements it provides a symbol of God’s love for us and reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice.

The typical umbrella has 8 sections; the 8 sections we will discuss will show the complete protection of God and God’s shelter will protect us in the storm of life and our destructive ways.  One last section is the handle, and I will dive much deeper into that.”
