there is no national debt. what we have is a total lie. let me explain. if an account came to evaluate your personal finances, he would look at your debt, your financial obligations, etc. and that would be the credit side of the ledger. then he would look at your income, your financial obligations owed to you, your hard assets like a car / home / land, and that would be the debit side of the ledger. when the accountant sums up your finances, he adds them up and there is truth.

but when people lie about United States finances, they pull an accounting trick to say the debt is unfixable or we need deep cuts (in government programs they probably dont like politically). they only look at income for the debit side of the ledger. thats just not true. they ignore hard assets. America is a huge nation with vast amounts of hard assets. we have massive forests, mines filled with precious metals, enormous fresh water reserves, we have extremely large reserves of coal, natural gas, and oil. in fact, the Green River oil reserve is so massive that it alone is worth more than the national debt. the US could sell off just a portion of that oil field and pay the national debt off tomorrow. Or, in modern finance, the US government could issue bonds backed by that oil field to pay off the debt, then slowly sell the oil into the market and make a profit. thats modern finance for you.

but if they tell you that or do that, then democrats cant argue they need to cut military spending to fix the debt. republicans cant tell you they need to cut fraud waste and abuse in government social programs to fix the debt. the lie would be exposed. so instead we play this game. but there is no debt. the total assets on hand is several quadrillion dollars. if you were debt, you might sell your car to pay it. the nation can do the same and sell soome assets, but they cant achieve their political goals that way.
