I lived in Finland for 35 years and worked for a Finish company within the Soviet Union. Finland had special privileges, such as Finnair being able to fly to the Far East over Russia, cheap energy and a guaranteed market for its goods. By joining NATO they not only threw these benefits away but the larger economic benefit of joining BRICS. Why? Because, like 1944, there is a small group of neo Nazis in the country who want to get back the part of Karelia they "lost" even though it was never Finnish but came to them when the Grand Duchy of Finland was formed by Imperial Russia after Sweden lost its war and Finnish territory. Like the current war in Ukraine Russia did not just attack Finland in 1939 but wanted to negotiate a land swap to increase the security of St Petersburg which at that time had Finnish territory on its doorstep. Finland refused and hence the war. Joining NATO is an illegal act in international law since the US and UK gave a legally binding undertaking that NATO would not expand one inch East of the East German border. The fact that they got away with it does not make it legal. The US and EU claim it was only a verbal agreement of no significance but as a recent opinion from the International Court points out verbal agreements are as binding as written ones and in any case written agreements do exists and are held at the Smithsonian Library. The US is building 47 new bases in Sweden and Finland and upgrading the ones in Norway which gives the lie to Trump's claim to want peace with Russia . This is either an attempt to extend Russia by increasing its armament costs but preparation for the full scale war NATO is planning and the Finns have allowed themselves to be suckered into being the next proxy force to be massacred by reference to their Sisu that will not matter a jot when faced with Russia's superior weapons like Oreshnik , nor should they rely on the claim that F35-s are stealth aircraft rather than expensive junk since Russia has systems like the combined radar and missile Pantisir and BUK -4M that can detect them at near ground level 80 km away and kill them with hypersonic missiles that are also carried by the Su-35, Su-57, Mig-31 and Mig-41 with the latter two flying above 80,000 feet so unreachable by NATO aircraft but with the ability to detect F 35s, F22s, drones and missiles and destroy them. Russia is also protecting its border with the S400/500 Dome radar missile system that can detect aircraft stealth or otherwise at 300 km and direct missiles from aircraft, ground and naval units to destroy them. But the bad news does not stop there. If NATO starts a war they will face Chinese and North Korean forces that are only 30 hours from St Petersburg by high speed rail and heavy armour coming from Murmask by the Arctic shipping route. Europe's leaders, especially Stubbs, are insane to think they can beat Russia and its allies.
