🚀 Societe Generale, one of the largest French banks, issues a Euro 🇪🇺 stablecoin on a public blockchain!

🔥 Their Euro stablecoin is called “EUR CoinVertible” or EURCV,
🔥 customers of Societe General can transfer EURCV to each other,
🔥 it’s all done on the public Ethereum blockchain,
🔥 customer can verify if the payment has arrived even with EtherScan,
🔥 the smart contract of EURCV is open source and transparent to everyone,
🔥 EURCV is audited by PwC France to demonstrate there are actual reserves behind the stablecoin.

⛔️ But not all is so rosy as it seems at first;

👎 nobody can develop any smart contract solutions on top of EURCV, unless approved by the bank,
👎 Euro stablecoin is not open for retail,
👎no opportunity for other crypto stakeholders to get involved in the development,
👎the stablecoin can’t be transferred outside of Societe General, hence it’s a project for an inner circle of the bank.

Let’s take this news as a victory, though objectively this is far off from a “regulated & traditional” banking player going full-in on crypto.
