This is true for almost all governments, very few RBI Governors dared to take opposite stand that of the Government!
Chidambaram is one of the brilliant finance ministers of India but sometimes his intentions and acts were not correct, another good finance minister is Yashwant Sinha!
At present from BJP, Subramanian Swami is very brilliant Economist but his views are not matching with top BJP leaders!

MC Exclusive | Chidambaram pushed RBI to paint rosier picture of economy: Subbarao
India will become the world's third-largest economy but it needs to make sure that the benefits are widely shared with the people, said the former RBI governor.

Taken from the FB Wall of the Tapan Kumar Pradhan.
Itβs about one tragic incidence happened with one very senior retired RBI Officer.
WILL YOUR FRIENDS REMAIN WITH YOU ON DEATH?
(The Strange Case of Uma Subramaniam of RBI)
Uma Subramaniam was a Chief General Manager and Regional Director of Reserve Bank of India. She also served as Principal of Reserve Bank Staff College. She headed important departments like banking and non-banking supervision in RBI, and was once widely perceived as the next Executive Director or even Deputy Governor of RBI. She prided herself as a "hard taskmaster", extracted maximum output from employees, and her staff were in awe of her.
TRAGIC END
A couple of days ago she was found dead inside her flat in Chennai. She was single, having never married. After retirement from RBI job she had been staying alone with her unmarried elder sister. The sister was suffering from hearing and speech impairment. Both the sisters lived in each otherβs company without much physical interaction with others. However, Uma Subramaniam apparently had several social media friends with whom she regularly chatted.
But a few days ago the residents of her neighbouring flats noticed that the milk packets left at her doorstep by the milkman had not been picked. Their knocks on the front door yielded no response. Suspecting something amiss, the neighbours informed police and RBI. When the front door was broken open in the presence of police officers, it was found that Uma Subramaniam was lying dead on her bed. Her old sister was lying motionless near her body in a semiconscious state.

Uma Subramaniamβs body had already decomposed and was emitting foul smell. Post mortem report showed that she had died three days ago. Her physically challenged elder sister had gone without food for three days and was herself on the verge of death.
Finally with the help of some RBI staff and local residents Uma Subramaniamβs mortal body was cremated, and her last rites performed. Her elder sister was admitted to a nearby hospital for care.
UNANSWERED QUESTIONS
(1) If Uma Subramaniam was active on social media, then why none of her online friends bothered to check on her when she stopped interacting online?
(2) Why her neighbours waited for three days to alert the police and RBI, instead of taking prompt action?
(3) What kind of system should we put in place to avoid such pathetic situations for our senior citizens?
STRANGE KARMIC TANGLE?
Although Uma Subramaniam had huge reputation in RBI for her erudition and mastery of finance and accounting, she actually became famous for a strange incidence which rocked her career.
When she was Regional Director of RBI Bhopal, one day she received phone call from an unknown person claiming to be a relative of the then RBI Governor Dr Y V Reddy. This person reportedly told Uma Subramaniam that Governor YV Reddy was in urgent need of Rs 20 lakh in cash for some medical emergency. Within verifying the facts, and without even calling RBI Governorβs office, Uma Subramaniam quickly collected cash from RBI staff. Rules were violated to withdraw huge cash after account closure. Then she personally carried the bag of cash in an autorickshaw, and handed over the cash to that unknown person who was waiting under a bridge in Bhopal city. That man took the cash and then vanished :-

After this incident Uma Subramaniam was charge-sheeted for her gross negligence and misuse of power, and was demoted from the post of CGM to GM. But later when her friend Shyamala Gopinath became RBI Deputy Governor, she was again promoted, which drew serious criticism in media :-

It is beyond comprehension as to why a person who had suffered so much in career because of a single catastrophic mistake, had to suffer such an ignominious exit from the world. But then inscrutable are the laws of God and Karma.
RIP
May Uma Subramaniamβs soul rest in peace. May her extraordinary life and works inspire other RBI officers (especially HRMD officials) to work for the upliftment of downtrodden destitutes in society. Om Shantih.
