The price of shares of Tianrui, a Chinse cement producer, fell by 99+% on 9th April 2024 on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. There are several explanations for such a fall. Can this ever happen in India for any company? Most probably, not, thanks to systems and processes put in place by SEBI and Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs). Yet this has several lessons for the policymakers, regulators, and MIIs as well as for investors, across the world.
