β After several fruitful discussions GST Was introduced on the 1st of July, the sole intent was to forge a general consensus on issues related to Tax and strengthening the Cooperative federalism of our Country.
β The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a value-added tax levied on most goods and services sold and offered within domestic consumption. Back in 2014, GST Bill was introduced, as The Constitution (122nd Amendment) Bill
β Key features:-
It is Applicable On the supply side: GST is applicable on the βsupplyβ of goods or services across the country.
Destination-based Taxation: GST is based on the principle of destination-based consumption taxation, taxation levied within the border of the respective supply side.
Duality nature of GST:- It is a dual GST with the Centre and the States simultaneously levying tax on a common base.
GST council, which regulates all the Matters, Every state has its membership.
β Reforms Brought About by GST!
Creation of a common national market. Reduction in Tax Burden. Making Indian products more competitive.
Bring about certainty: Common procedures for registration of taxpayers, refund of taxes, uniform formats of tax return, common tax base, and common system of classification of goods and services will lend greater certainty to the taxation system;
Transparent prices: Final price of goods is expected to be transparent due to the seamless flow of input tax credit between the manufacturer, retailer, and service supplier.
Price reduction: Reduction in prices of commodities and goods in the long run due to reduction in the cascading impact of taxation;
β Conclusions:-
Thus GST is really a revolutionary step towards shifting the Indian economy from an informal to a formal economy. It is important to utilize experiences from global economies that have implemented GST before us, like Canada, where some common issues are there as India is still facing so it might help us to overcome the impending challenges.
