One example of how media can shape public perception occurred in the early 2000s when a study was published linking autism to vaccinations. Despite the fact that numerous studies conducted subsequently found no evidence to support this link, many parents still refused to vaccinate their children due to the fear that had been created by the initial, discredited study. This highlights the power of media to spread misinformation and the importance of fact-checking and critical thinking when consuming news.
