Keet relies on Google's Firebase cloud messaging for chat message notifications without saying a word about it, while claiming to be fully P2P.

They also make a big deal out of going open source, which is something they're yet to do after years. I'm sure I'm just scratching the issues with it.

FYI to any Android app dev: This toggle in Play console doesn't effectively secure your app against tampering. Instead, it'll prevent sideloading the app even while it's a completely untouched original binary. This means that if Google Play is the sole distributor…
"A cracked version is a version of your app that still works when it’s been modified or when it’s been installed outside Google Play if you require Google Play installation."

Google's definition says APKMirror is full of cracked apps xD

Some people don't know how to clickbait.

Utah mandated sites to do age checks worldwide, because every IP can be an underage VPN user living in Utah.

I'm completely astonished by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 camera feature set!

Either it's a mess up and they forgot to mention ML involvement in 3A, or it's just downplaying the capabilities of the ISP to sell a higher tier chip, as irl specs aren't that bad (keep in mind that "cameras" --> sensor modes):
Dual 12-bit ISPs
Up to 16 MP + 16 MP dual camera with 30 FPS with Zero Shutter Lag
Up to 32 MP single camera with 30 FPS with Zero Shutter Lag
Up to 108 MP photo capture
Multi-Frame Noise Reduction
Motion Compensated Temporal Filtering

In 2014, Carl was talking about building a phone brand free from "power of greedy corporations".
Now that he's an actual owner of his company, he's fine with polluting the main, "iPhone-competing" brand with the rotten (but avoidable) fruits of that power. I don't think it's a long term success strategy.

If you buy this, you deserve everything what's wrong with Android now and in the future

No one asked, but Sony delivered.
I really wonder if this feature is so bad irl xD

Oh these pesky untrustworthy external cameras... I wonder if UNKNOWN is already planned as a space for an external DRM-ed camera that attests itself more than physical cameras inside device currently do.

Can't wait for external cameras with TrustZone and tiny battery to track their internal time, giving them internet access or talking to them through a protocol that gives them server-distributed credentials for your future Zoom job interview. Or something around that in a future provenance Google utopia, the consequence of which they either don't mind or absolutely love.

For future reference, "provenance" is the established euphemism for media capture DRM, where having an attested device and software is meant to grant you privileges over people who don't have them.

Sorry for third message in a row, but signing media normally is a great idea. Make your public key known, use it on your devices and skip the risk of images misattributed to you. It's just that it's not what Google (and few others) are pushing.

There's now a closed source app (with PairIP enabled by default) that seemingly tells Android to convert just obtained dng into a jpeg, like https://github.com/reilandeubank/unprocess.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vwfndr.mbl

Expect 1fps burst and major incompatibilities, but at least it's more real than Zerocam.
Should you use it over Motioncam, Photon or gcam? Probably not, but at least this time it does something.

Oh, and right, it promises "Content Credentials" you have no control over (or at least I failed to find the setting with key import anywhere), so the exclusionary photo DRM, excellent xD
