✨The Rulings of Menstruation and Postpartum Bleeding✨
(Post 2: Types of Blood)
Types of Blood
The Scholars mention that there are three types of blood that come from a woman, they are (1):
1. Menustrual Blood (ُالحَيض).
2. Postpartum bleeding (ُالنِّفاس).
3. Irregular Bleeding (الاِسْتِحَاضَةُ), which is also known as Bad Blood (دَمُ الْفَسَاد)
Some Scholars categorize Bad Blood as a separate category therefore making it four types of blood. (2) Those who add this fourth category believe the difference between it and the third category to be merely lexical and not in terms of ruling.
There are catagories within each type of blood and they are listed below.
Types of Menustral Blood (الحيض):
- A woman who menustruates for the first time (المُبتَدأة)
- A woman who has a regular monthly cycle (المُعتَادَة)
- A woman who has forgotten the duration or the timing of her menustrual cycle (المُتَحَيِّرَة)
Types of Irregular Bleeding (الإسْتِحَاضَة)
- A woman who has a regular monthly cycle and non-menustrual bleeding that can be distinguished from the menustrual blood
- A woman who has a regular monthly cycle and non-menustrual bleeding that cannot be distinguished from the menustrual blood
- A woman who does not have a regular monthly cycle but has non-menustrual bleeding that can be distinguished from the menustrual blood
- A woman who does not have a regular monthly cycle and has non-menustrual bleeding that cannot be distinguished from the menustrual blood
Postpartum bleeding (النِّفَاس), the rulings of which will posted in the coming posts in shā Allāh

Forwarded from Sh. Muhammad Ali Ādam al-Ityūbi [ENG]
Some aspire to marry a student of knowledge thinking that it'll be the best time of their life...The reality is that being married to a student requires much patience and sacrifice.
Here is example related about the life of our Sh. Muhammad Ali Adam al-Ityūbi رحمه الله تعالى (with some personal additions).
The Shaykh غفر الله له would spend his mornings at work teaching at an Islamic institution in Makkah known as "Dar al-Hadith". When he reached home, he was known to take the mid-day nap after Dhuhr.
He would pray Asr in our local masjid then go home to work on his books. After praying maghrib, he would get ready to head to the Haram and teach after Esha, 5 days a week. He would work on his books even more on the weekends.
Which woman today is ready to be married to someone with this type of daily schedule?
One of the Shaykh's sons related a conversation that occurred between his parents at the time of Sh. Muhammad's illness عفا الله عنه.
He said to his wife of 9 kids, "Pardon me, I've exhausted you/tired you out; you were patient with my poverty and busyness." She replied حفظها الله, "What are you saying?! You've entered us into Jannah in this life before we enter it (in the Hereafter إن شاء الله)".
This legit made me cry...
May Allah reward her with good for taking care of our beloved Shaykh throughout his life and looking after his needs so as to serve the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.
May Allah grant the wives of students - those who sacrificed a life of comfort and luxury for a life of knowledge and many many tests - the pleasure of seeing His Face in Paradise, Aameen Yaa Rabb.
