On September 29, 2025, President Donald Trump issued an order declaring that any armed attack on Qatar’s territory, sovereignty, or critical infrastructure will be treated as a direct threat to U.S. peace and security.

The order authorizes “all lawful and appropriate measures — diplomatic, economic, and if necessary military” to defend Qatar, and directs joint contingency planning between U.S. and Qatari authorities.

The move comes in the wake of Israel’s deadly strike in Doha against Hamas leaders — an attack that also killed a Qatari security officer. Trump framed Qatar as a key U.S. partner hosting American forces and mediating regional conflicts.
