The day before yesterday, resistance fighters carried out a shooting attack against a military observation tower near the Gitt Junction (Surra checkpoint) on the road between Nablus and Qalqilya in northern the West Bank. Although bullet traces were found, the IDF spokesperson did not issue any statement regarding the incident.
After repeated inquiries, the โJewish Voiceโ radio station received a response from the army spokesperson stating: โOn Monday, the day before yesterday, gunfire was heard from the village of Surra toward a military site at the Gitt Junction. The army forces rushed to the scene and conducted a search in the area. Yesterday, Tuesday, the forces detected bullet marks on the walls of the site.โ

The Palestinian Observer
At the same time, the latest CBS data shows that immigration fell sharply: only around 32,800 new immigrants arrived in 2024, a drop of 55.1% compared to 2022. That means Israel is attracting significantly fewer newcomers than before, reversing one of the key trends that has historically boosted its population growth.
Meanwhile, returns are down as well โ fewer Israelis who left abroad came back in 2024 than in 2023. On the other hand, emigration surged: around 82,700 left in 2024 versus about 55,300 in 2022 โ an increase of roughly 50% in just two years. This makes the net outflow even more severe, since not only are more people leaving, but fewer are choosing to return.
In short, Israel is facing a dual challenge: rising emigration and falling immigration. The result is a negative migration balance, the highest in decades, and a clear sign that the demographic and social pressures inside the country are intensifying.
