The Mezine Swastika(s) are believed to be the oldest examples of the pattern discovered — dating to 18,000 BCE. This places them at the end of the last Glacial Maximum. Whilst these pre-date the Indo-Europeans by many millennia, it's of interest to note that they were discovered within remarkably close proximity to where the Proto-Indo-European Urheimat is believed to have been (Pontic Steppe).

This object has been interpreted as a shamanic religious item, given its ornithomorphic nature.
Bulgarian nation like other Slavic nations still keeps a lot of their pagan traditions. Most of them were unfortunately taken over by Christianity, but for the most part these traditions, and rites of passage are still celebrated as they would have been back in the pagan days.
