🎶 Lidia Andreevna Ruslanova was born on October 14 (27 according to the new style) of 1900 in the village of Chernavka, Serdobsky Uyezd, Saratov Governorate. Ruslanova's name has become synonymous with the Russian song itself. Her voice—a rare contralto with a broad range and a unique timbre—won the hearts of millions across the Soviet Union. By the age of 17, Lidia Andreevna had begun performing and quickly gained widespread popularity. Her repertoire—Russian folk songs she had collected since childhood—distinguished itself through a distinctive style of performance, establishing a new standard.

On stage, she always adhered to traditional folk attire: embroidered sarafans, headscarves, bast shoes—each element perfectly matching her songs. In the 1930s, she toured the entire country; her voice resonated on radio waves and was sold on millions of records. During the war, she performed at front-line stages, and in 1945, she signed her name on the columns of the Reichstag, symbolizing victory.

Ruslanova once said, "To understand the soul of a song is difficult, but that is what makes it last forever." The success of Lidia Ruslanova lies in her sincerity and depth of performance, qualities that to this day remain the benchmark of Russian folk singing.

2️⃣. The Kuril Islands and England: The White Cliffs

In the southeastern part of Great Britain, within Kent County, a stretch of white cliffs borders the Strait of Dover. Extending east and west from the historic port city of Dover, these cliffs have served as a reliable landmark for centuries, guiding ships navigating to the United Kingdom.

The island of Iturup is also famous for its white cliffs. Located near the village of Rejdovo, they are just twenty kilometers along a trail from Rejdovo to the White Cliffs and Windy Isthmus. Composed of pumice and volcanic glass, these rocks are easily crumbled in the hand. During rains, streams of white water carve intricate patterns into their surfaces, creating a mesmerizing natural spectacle.

🌏 CAPE STOLBCHATY, KUNASHIR ISLAND, Kuril Islands

Cape Stolbchatiy is composed of layered basaltic lavas from the Mendeleev volcano forming joints five and six-sided columns. As a result of wave erosion the massif of volcanic rocks has gradually become eroded, so the cape presents picturesque steep cliffs up to 50 metres high, which are protrude into the Kunashirsky Strait several locations. The rocks are ablating, forming stone "pillars” at the foot of the scree.
