In Russian culture, as well as in the culture of other countries, there are national toys with a long history. Today, we invite you to explore our toys and learn some interesting facts about them. We will provide detailed information about each toy later in the article.

πŸ’› Of course, the history of toys includes those made from clay.

🀎 Whistles are handcrafted from clay mixed with sand and water, and they come in various shapes, such as birds, animals, or mythological figures.

🀍 Rattles were originally intended to scare away evil forces. For example, Novgorod rattles had the shape of ducks from 1 to 6 centimeters long, and a clay ball or a small stone was placed inside them.

✨ Filimonov toy (Tula region) β€” whistles, figurines of people and animals, decorated with various colors.

There were also wooden toys:

πŸ’› Panks were toys made of a single piece of wood, represented by figures of animals, birds, and humans.

🩷 "Move aparts" - figures were fixed on sliding slats
Kubar β€” a wooden ball or cylinder on a short stem, the prototype of the modern spinning top.

🫢 Bogorodsky blacksmiths β€” figures of a peasant and a bear attached to a plank.

And also dolls made of fabric:

πŸ’› Rag dolls β€” these were made from scraps of fabric, sometimes stuffed with straw, and dressed in ethnic dresses (sarafans) and shirts.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Bird doll β€” made from a square piece of bright fabric, tied with thread to give it the shape of a bird.

☁️ Swaddling doll β€” a small doll wrapped in fabric, placed in a baby's cradle to take on all the misfortunes from evil spirits.
