Wrangel Island: An Untouched Arctic Paradise
Spanning an area of 7,670 square kilometers, Wrangel Island is located in the Arctic Ocean, just 140 kilometers off the northern coast of Russia.
Currently, the island hosts no permanent population. The only year-round residents are the staff of the nature reserve and the hydrometeorological station. Their numbers swell in the summer months with the arrival of researchers and scientific expedition teams, while in winter, only a small guard team remains on site.
Wrangel Island stands out for its pristine environment. It is home to nearly the entire global population of snow geese — approximately 100,000 individuals. In total, more than 170 bird species have been recorded there. The island also serves as the primary resting ground for Pacific walruses in the Chukchi Sea. Additionally, it hosts tundra lemmings, reindeer, and stoats.
Furthermore, the island is often referred to as the “maternity ward” of the white bear, hosting one of the world’s largest concentrations of polar bear dens.
Since 1976, Wrangel Island has enjoyed the status of a Russian natural reserve, and it has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004.

SNOW-COVERED AGOURA WATERFALLS, SOCHI
This is quite a rare sight. For Sochi, snowfalls are usually tantamount to a natural disaster.
Agoura Falls is a cascade of waterfalls on the Agoura River in the Khostinsky district of Sochi. They are 4 km away from the Black Sea coast.
The Lower Agoura Waterfall consists of two cascades: the lower one is 18 meters high, and the upper one is 12 meters high. There is a wide and deep pool of blue water under it. The Devil's Burrow canyon is approximately 1.5 km away from the Lower waterfall.

Behind the first waterfall, there is a series of stairs and acclivities which in 500 meters lead up to the Middle Agoura waterfall – a 23-meter-high waterfall, and then to the Upper waterfall which is 21-meter high. In the vicinity of the Upper waterfall, to the left of the trail, there are rocks called Eagle rocks.
