Rewrite it in Swift!
Lots of cool stuff being (re)implemented in Swift. This year, Apple is highlighting Swift being used in servers, Android apps, and low-level code like WebKit, networking, font rendering, and even drivers and kernel components, both theirs and others!
Excited that this year's Apple OS kernels will, at least in part, be written in Swift.

The unwritten laws of software engineering
Last April, I wrote a well-received article about the 13 software engineering laws - Hyrum’s, Conway’s, Zawinski’s, and 10 famous others.
For those of you who want that 2000s glassy aesthetic that they showed off at WWDC25, iOS 27 developer beta 1 seems to bring that back!
For those who hate it, there's a slider now!

TIL that Aegisub crashes when you have more than one system language on Linux.
Pro tip: assume the user is multilingual

I just noticed that the new tab bar selector, refracts the app content SEPARATELY behind the tab content, shifting it left & right slightly.

Google announces new Gemini 2.0 models, in the era of Gemini 3.5, and then lets you pick Gemini 3.x models.
y’all, I think I know exactly what happened here...
They used Gemini 3.x to vibe code this whole announcement, and and it’s training data, 2.x is the latest version of Gemini

After over 11 years, the QUERY HTTP method is finally an RFC!

RFC 10008: The HTTP QUERY Method
This specification defines the QUERY method for HTTP. A QUERY requests that the request target process the enclosed content in a safe and idempotent manner and then respond with the result of that processing. This is similar to POST requests, but QUERY requests…

Yes, macOS using Cmd+Shift+3 for screenshot is weird and bad for many reasons.
But I find myself binding Ctrl+Shift+3 and Meta+Shift+3 as screenshot on my games, as well as my Windows & Linux boxes, for one major reason:
I can keep my hands in nearly the same position. Right stays where it is and left stays very nearly on WASD.
Meta+S would probably be better but it's hard for me to find a consistent way to bind that.
Also, don't act as if Alt+F4 or F5 or F11 or Ctrl+Alt+Del are any more intuitive :p
macOS keyboard shortcuts tend to be better in general, this one is just so especially bad (especially for a common operation) that it sticks out

Let's go
Overall, after settling all install issues, and using this for a month and a half...
it's gotten in my way much less than Mint and Windows did!
It feels very Mac-ey, in that it allows me to do whatever I want without being so gunked up in technical knowledge that I need to learn a ton to do it.
Better than macOS for the obvious reasons like UI customization and shit, but otherwise We feel very at-home using CachyOS in a way We never did using... well, basically any Debian OS
