Kobolds in the data center can be very helpful! But you really do have to keep an eye on them

Amazing teardown of the biggest problems with C++

The worst programming language of all time
by Lazo Velko

"incompatible by default" might be the most scathing thing I’ve ever heard about a programming language, bar none

The libgit2 maintainers are so fuckin frustrating xD

- Why isn't prefixlen documented? (at least there is a doc comment..)

- lastslash seems at first glance to be the index of the last slash, but in fact is a Boolean which says whether the last character is a slash

- lastslash doesn't just check the last character in the string; it gets overridden once for every character
- Throughout this codebase, returning an int means it might throw, so you gotta check that for an error code. Here it's being used because they chose not to name the enum that its return values are declared in.

- *p++. The way it's used here implies it's supposed to increment the pointer and not the value it's pointing to, and then get the value it's pointing to... which, I think is the old value??? But Lordy that's not clear.

- This is all inlined, declared in a header file... because it's so simple

- After confirming the strings are exactly equal up to the length of the shorter string, it checks whether the last chartacter of child was a '/', and then checks its int-Boolean to remember whether the same character was a '/' in parent

I could write so much better C than this, and I hate C.

This really summarizes what makes Linux maddening to me.

The default image viewer on Mint (I don't even know how I'd go about finding out what it is; it's just called Image Viewer) has a setting which opens a Python console? On a PNG??
but it has zero settings to change which color space it operates in... and it's not in the my monitor's color space, nor the one Cinnamon is in.

Fuck it. We're gonna try Linux on Our desktop again.
Well, Mint is... meh.
I think next We'll try Pop!_OS. Same hardware, same installs and goals, see how that fares.
Well, then.. you don't often get the code coloring fucking up like that, lol
