Gosh I love Apple Silicon....

We haven't charged this laptop since migrating data to it last night, and have been using it a ton since then, and it's still over 50%

Installed macOS Tahoe to try out the new Xcode builtin Coding Assistant mode powered by ChatGPT.

Gave it a relatively easy problem: A game of Snake with everything implemented, but the controls don't respond.

I asked it, it didn't give a response, and it said I'm over my daily limit.

GitHub CEO: manual coding remains key despite AI boom

[...] spending too much time explaining simple changes in natural language instead of editing the code directly.

β€œThe worst alternative is trying to figure out how to provide feedback or prompt to describe in natural language what I already know how to do in programming language,”

Reminder that, if you use a paid AI coding assistant, you are literally paying it per line of code it writes.

The company that makes it is incentivized to make it put out longer and more verbose code, just like back in the day when managers used to pay developers per line of code

It's looking like engineers have a lower cognitive load using AI, but take more time.

Which, TBH, is probably a nice tradeoff, assuming that the code that gets merged remains high-quality.

Unfortunately, software engineers are (generally) notoriously terrible at code reviews.
