The Month of Dhul-Hijjah and Fasting the Day of Arafah

The sacred month of Dhul-Hijjah (the 12th month of the Islamic calendar) begins after sunset on Sunday May 17th, 2026. Yaumul-Arafah (Day of Arafah, 9th of Dhul-Hijjah) will be on Tuesday May 26th, 2026. It is highly encouraged for those people not making Hajj to fast on that day, as the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said regarding fasting on that day:

“It expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year.” (Sahih Muslim)

Also reminder, that as the month of Dhul-Hijjah begins after Maghrib today, it is not allowed for the one offering the sacrifice to cut any of his/her hair or to clip their nails. This is due to the saying of the Prophet (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam):

“When the month of Dhul-Hijjah begins, and one of you intends to make a sacrifice (ud’hiyah), then let him not take anything from the hair of his body, or his nails until he has sacrificed.” (Muslim, no. 1977 from Umm Salamah) The time begins from sunset, the night before the first day of Dhul-Hijjah.

Brothers and Sisters, we have a few families, poor and needy, devoid of even basic requirements like food and clothing. Among these families are those who are in dire need of medicines but can't afford to buy them. We need assistance to fulfill their requirements, especially on the coming occasion of Eid-ul-Adh'hā. Therefore, during these 10 highly virtuous and blessed days of Dhul-Hijjah, let a poor child or a poor parent be fed or clothed with your Sadaqah, in Shā Allāh. Donate, may Allāh bless you and increase your reward in both the worlds.
