On 25 October 2025, our friend Sofiya Abramchuk-Hussey will be running the Snowdon Eryri Marathon for the second year in a row to raise funds for Ukraine.

Another wonderful young Ukrainian lady from our community in Wales, Anastasiia Opalatenko, is also running a marathon to fundraise for Ukraine. But this time, her journey will take her all the way to Italy — she will run the Wizz Air Venice Marathon on Sunday, 26 October (just one day after Sofiya runs the Snowdon Eryri Marathon in Wales)! 🏃♀️🇺🇦
Last year, Anastasiia successfully completed the Veloforte Wales Marathon and raised over £800 for Sunflowers Wales. The money was used to purchase and send vital medical supplies to hospitals and paramedics in Ukraine. 💛💙
Now she is taking on this new challenge in Venice, once again dedicating every step of her marathon to Ukraine and the people who continue to show courage and strength through the war.

Sunflowers Wales invites Ukrainians and their friends to a commemorative event marking the sad 4th anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion and 12 years of war in Ukraine. On this day, we gather to honour the memory of those who have fallen and to express our continued support for Ukraine.
We invite you to watch the documentary “Palyanytsia” as part of the International Film Marathon Culture vs War, dedicated to the fourth anniversary of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“Palyanytsia” (2025, 64 minutes) is a powerful and deeply moving documentary about war, art, and inner transformation. The film follows two American street artists who travel to Ukraine in an attempt to comprehend the reality of war through art. Their journey across Ukrainian cities — from Kyiv to Kharkiv — becomes an encounter with human resilience, pain, and truth. It challenges their worldview and raises profound questions about responsibility, choice, and humanity.
“Palyanytsia” is a film about art as a means of reflection — and about a Ukraine that is impossible not to feel.

The Culture vs War Film Marathon marks the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Screenings will take place in many cities around the world, highlighting the events and consequences of the war through the stories of Ukrainians.
The Marathon is initiated by the Watch Ukrainian Association, with the support of the MHP–Hromadi Charitable Foundation, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
In the United Kingdom, the Marathon is co-organised by KRYLA Culture CIC, the local partner is Sunflowers Wales.

Вже четвертий рік поспіль ми зібралися в центрі Свонзі, щоб вшанувати річницю повномасштабного вторгнення та віддати шану жертвам війни, яка триває вже 12 довгих і болісних років.
Разом із нашими валлійськими друзями ми переглянули зворушливий документальний фільм «Паляниця» — історію про іноземних стріт-арт художників, які приїхали в Україну і через мистецтво зіткнулися з суворою та болісною реальністю війни.
Для нас було надзвичайно важливо зібратися разом — побачити знайомі обличчя, розділити тягар цих років, говорити про втрати й незламність, нагадати одне одному, що ми не самі. У єдності — наша сила.
Ми щиро вдячні міській раді Свонзі за можливість провести захід у Collaboration Station.
