with this problem?
For current societies using a mobile phone on a daily basis is becoming almost compulsory for people regardless of their age because of their responsibilities and duties. Consequently, most teenagers are accessing to various websites and social media platforms without any guidance. This is causing over-addiction to virtual world and increased crime rates among youngsters, yet these could be addressed by government and parental control.
There are several drawbacks of unsupervised internet usage, one of which is virtual addiction. Admittedly, modern platforms and gaming apps are constantly updating user experience and improving their features, designs and simulations. Thereby, children are easily attracted by those interactive content unconsciously and becoming addicted unless nobody limit them from these websites. PUBG is a prime example, as its main users are teenagers and children which are captured by weekly promotions in updates.
Another detrimental effect is growing crime rate among teenagers. Both online games and certain websites advertise criminal activities in an unnoticeable manner. It undoubtedly influence children’s behaviour and normalize crime in daily life. Instagram videos showing street races, for example, firstly seen as a negative habit but later it become pursuit for them. These all mean unsupervised virtual activity could potentially lead to crime or addiction.
However significant the problem may seem, these can be tackled by government support and parental supervision. As for the government, they could implement age restriction to certain apps for teenagers. Canada and France have already restricted social media usage for teenagers and it is positively influencing on their academic performance. Parents, also, play important role on solving this issue. By using “ Google Parental Control” they should limit screen time of their children. It means both government and parents should be careful on how children use mobile phones.
In conclusion, there adverse consequences of unsupervised screen time of children, yet it is an easy to solve problem whenever government and parents take it serious.
