A pre-dawn blast at Costa Rica's Rincon de la Vieja stood out today as the volcano produced its most energetic eruption of 2026. Compared with the previous day, Popocatepetl's stated alert is now Yellow - Phase 2, and ash at Kanlaon was not reported. Elsewhere, steady activity spanned Indonesia and the Andes, with high explosion counts at Semeru, Reventador and Sangay, while Great Sitkin's lava dome growth (Watch / Aviation ORANGE) and a glowing-but-paused Kilauea (Advisory / Aviation YELLOW) rounded out the U.S. highlights.

United States
great sitkin (great-sitkin/news.html) (Watch / Aviation ORANGE) kept extruding lava inside the summit crater, with rockfalls from the growing dome recorded. At kilauea (kilauea/news.html) (Advisory / Aviation YELLOW), eruptive activity remained paused although glow and small flames persisted from vents and the crater-floor flow field. Farther west, shishaldin (shishaldin/news.html) (Advisory / Aviation YELLOW) showed vapor plumes, SO2 degassing, and detectable thermal anomalies.

Indonesia
Explosive activity was widespread: semeru (semeru/news.html) logged 67 explosions with plumes to 900 m and several rockfalls, while merapi (merapi/news.html) produced nine hot rockfalls reaching up to 1.8 km and numerous additional rockfalls. Farther north, ibu (ibu/news.html) tallied 111 explosions with plumes to 500 m, and dukono (dukono/news.html) had 42 explosions with gas-and-steam rising 600 m. Several others at Level 2 unrest—such as lewotolok (lewotolo/news.html), Lewotobi, Karangetang, Kerinci, and Krakatau—emitted low plumes or weak gas releases alongside minor seismic signals.

Philippines
At mayon (mayon/news.html) (Alert Level 3), activity persisted, while kanlaon (canlaon/news.html) (Alert Level 2) continued at a lower profile today with no ash reported. Low-level unrest also continued at taal (taal/news.html) and bulusan (bulusan/news.html) (both Alert Level 1).

Mexico
popocatepetl (popocatepetl/news.html) produced ash, gas, and vapor emissions and two small VT earthquakes (M2.1 and M1.1); authorities list the alert as Yellow - Phase 2.

South America
In Ecuador, reventador (reventador/news.html) registered 77 explosions with ash-and-gas up to 900 m and incandescent rockfalls descending 1 km, while sangay (sangay/news.html) had 143 explosions and low ash plumes with thermal anomalies.
