On 11 March, the volcano showed dramatic activity.
A strong eruption generated a dense grey ash plume, which reached approx. 27,000 ft (8,200 m) altitude and drifted to the east.
This is highly likely might mean that the ongoing growing lava dome has been destroyed.
Kusatsu-Shirane (Honshu): (12 Mar) The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that unrest continued at Kusatsu-Shiranesan between 9 March 2026 (local) and 11 March 2026 (local). The alert level remained at "Level 2 - Restriction on proximity to the crater" (on a 5-level scale).
