A spectacular eruption took place from the volcano today.
A powerful explosion generated a dense dark ash column. The towering pillar of gas, ash emissions and lava bombs rose about 1,600 meters above the summit in the eastern direction.
The volcano observatory reported a seismic signal with a maximum amplitude of 30 mm and a duration of 33 seconds.
There is a 3 km exclusion zone around the Verbeek Crater in place.

Today, a strong explosion occurred from the volcano's summit, generating multiple moderate-to-strong pyroclastic flows that raced down over several slopes. This was likely caused by the eruption column collapse. Pyroclastic flows are deadly, turbulent hot avalanche of lava rock fragments of all sizes embedded in a mixture of turbulent gas and ash racing down slopes.
An abundant grey-to-black ash column rose to an altitude of 15,000 ft (4,600 m).
