Gas and vapor plume(s) rose to a maximum of 25 m (82 ft) above the vent. There were 27 hot rockfalls, traveling up to 2,000 m. There were 124 seismically detected rockfalls. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the eruption continued at Mayon on 28 January 2026 (local). Eruptive activity was primarily characterized by the collapse of new material associated with dome growth. Lava effusion was reported. Minor, episodic Strombolian activity was observed. Seismicity related to pyroclastic density currents was recorded 51 times. There were 344 seismically detected rockfalls. Crater glow was visible to the naked eye. Volcanic seismicity was recorded 119 times. Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions averaged 1,275 tonnes per day on 28 January. Plume(s) rose to a maximum of 1,000 m (3,281 ft) above the vent. According to a Disaster Response Operations Management, Information and Communication (DROMIC) report, as of 1800 on 28 January, a total of 4,106 individuals (comprising 1,132 families) were evacuated from communities within the 6-km permanent danger zone (PDZ), primarily in Camalig, Guinobatan, Ligao city, Malilipot, and Tabaco city. The alert level remained at "3 - Increased Tendency Towards Hazardous Eruption" (on a 0–5 level scale). The aviation alert level remained at "Orange" (level 3 on a 4-level scale).

The Instituto Nacional de Sismología, Vulcanología, Meteorología e Hidrología (INSIVUMEH) reported that the eruption continued at Fuego between 27 January 2026 (local) and 28 January 2026 (local). Weak-to-moderate Strombolian explosions were recorded at a rate of 6–9 per hour, generating ash and gas plumes that reached as high as 4,800 m above sea level. Fine ash fall was reported in communities on the SW flank. Crater glow was observed during the night and early morning hours. Gas and vapor plume(s) rose to a maximum of 200 m (656 ft) above the vent. Activity also included: audible sounds (e.g., booms, rumbling), shockwave.
