The eruption at the volcano is intensifying. As the summit lava dome grows, it produces continuous incandescent rockfall and pyroclastic flows traveling down the Mi-isi, Bonga and Basud gullies.
The PHIVOLCS volcano observatory reported a total of 150 rockfalls and 90 pyroclastic density currents (PDF)during a 24 hours observation interval on 09 January 2026. Alert Level 3 prevails over Mayon volcano and entry into the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone is prohibited.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that eruptive activity increased at Mayon on 8 January 2026 (local). A newly formed dark lava dome was observed in webcam footage timestamped at 1140 on 8 January. Eruptive activity continued to be primarily characterized by dome growth and the collapse of new material. Additionally, the beginning of a lava flow was observed at the summit. Dome collapse activity produced a total of 100 pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), pyroclastic flows, which traveled down the Miisi (S), Bonga (SE), and Basud (E) gullies. Additionally, a total of 72 rockfalls were detected. Crater glow was visible to the naked eye. Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions were measured at 195 tonnes per day on 8 January.
