Statement in Solidarität mit Palästinenser*innen von Abolish Deportation Prison BER

1. Warum positionieren wir uns?

Während in Palästina ein Genozid verübt wird, schweigt die linke Szene in Deutschland weitgehend. Wir sehen, dass selbst in unseren eigenen Kreisen, deutsche Schuldgefühle und Privilegien Menschen daran hindern, zu Kriegsverbrechen und Völkermord Stellung zu beziehen. Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass wir die Verantwortung haben, unsere Stimme zu erheben, da Schweigen nur die rassistischen und unreflektierten Diskurse verstärkt, die von Seiten der deutschen Regierung und Medien verbreitet werden. An die deutsche Linke: Durch Schweigen machen wir uns mitschuldig an der Unterdrückung der Palästinenser*innen und der Bombardierung Gazas. Positioniert euch!

2. Situation in Palästina

Wir sind solidarisch mit Palästinenser*innen und unterstützen das Recht aller Völker, sich von Besatzung zu befreien. Während deutsche und westliche Medien sich weigern, in ihrer Berichterstattung Kontext zu geben, stellen wir klar, dass die vergangenen Wochen der Gewalt ein Produkt von 75 Jahren siedlerkolonialer Besatzung, Apartheid, Menschenrechtsverletzungen und Kriegsverbrechen sind, die vom israelischen Staat begangen und von Deutschland und anderen westlichen Regierungen finanziert und unterstützt werden. Wir trauern um alle Menschen, die in Palästina und Israel vor, am und nach dem 7. Oktober ihr Leben verloren haben. Wir werden nicht wegschauen, wenn Palästinenser*innen systematisch getötet und unterdrückt werden, und wir verurteilen den Genozid, der in Gaza stattfindet. Wir unterstützen das Recht aller Palästinenser*innen auf Selbstbestimmung und ein Leben in Freiheit - in ihrer Heimat und auf der ganzen Welt.

3. Situation in Berlin & Deutschland

In den letzten Wochen haben wir in Berlin schwere Verletzungen unserer Rechte auf Versammlungs- und Meinungsfreiheit erlebt. Proteste in Solidarität mit Palästinenser*innen wurden verboten und gewaltsam unterdrückt. Der Berliner Senat versucht ein Verbot aller palästinensischen Symbole in Schulen durchzusetzen. Die Polizei flutet die Straßen von Neukölln und nimmt alle Menschen ins Visier, die Kufiyas, palästinensische Flaggen oder andere solidarische Symbole tragen. Hunderte von Menschen, darunter auch Kinder, wurden festgenommen, weil sie sich mit Palästina identifizieren oder Solidarität zeigen. Die Polizei geht dabei mit äußerster Brutalität vor: Demonstrierende werden gezerrt, geschlagen, getreten und mit Pfefferspray und Wasserwerfern zurückgedrängt.

Diese Repression wird mit einem antimuslimischen rassistischen Diskurs gerechtfertigt, der arabische Identitäten und Israelkritik mit Antisemitismus und Terrorismus gleichsetzt. Wir akzeptieren dieses Narrativ nicht und wenden uns gegen die gewaltsame Unterdrückung der palästinensischen Trauer, Wut und politischen Meinungsfreiheit. Genauso wenden wir uns auch gegen die Unterdrückung von israelkritischen Jüdinnen*Juden, deren Protest und Kritik an israelischen Kriegsverbrechen unterdrückt und absurderweise als antisemitisch bezeichnet werden.

4. Zusammenhang mit Abschiebungen

Der deutsche Staat droht nun damit, Menschen abzuschieben, die (solidarisch mit) Palästinenser*innen sind, den israelischen Staat kritisieren und daher bei Protesten festgenommen werden. Staatliche Repressionen in Form von Inhaftnahme und Bestrafung werden als Mittel eingesetzt, um Abschiebungen vermehrt durchsetzen zu können und damit das deutsche Grenzregime gewaltvoll aufrechtzuerhalten. 

Wir fordern die Regierung auf, die Unterdrückung von Palästinenser*innen und derjenigen, die sich mit ihnen solidarisieren, durch Protestverbote, Polizeigewalt und Abschiebungen, sofort zu beenden. Wir akzeptieren nicht, dass der Staat uns und unsere Freund*innen zum Schweigen bringen möchte. Wir müssen dafür sorgen, dass palästinensische Stimmen gehört werden, ohne dass ihnen Gewalt oder der Verlust des Aufenthaltsrechts droht.

5. Rassismus & Antisemitismus

Auch wenn die deutschen, israelischen und westlichen Regierungen uns etwas anderes glaubhaft machen wollen: Gewalt, Apartheid und Kriegsverbrechen gegen Palästinenser*innen anzuprangern ist nicht antisemitisch. Antisemitismus ist historisch gesehen ein Produkt rechtsnationaler Ideologie in Deutschland und Europa. Während die überwiegende Mehrheit der antisemitischen Straftaten in Deutschland von Rechten begangen wird, wird die Verantwortung für Antisemitismus nun fälschlicherweise auf palästinensisch, arabisch und migrantisch gelesene Menschen ausgelagert. Dieses Narrativ ist nicht nur rassistisch, sondern auch gefährlich, da es von der tatsächlichen Bedrohung durch den Aufstieg der AfD und anderer antisemitischer Akteure ablenkt. Wir treten gegen Antisemitismus ein, wo immer er auftritt, in welchem Kontext auch immer, und wir lehnen die Gleichsetzung der Bewegung für die Freiheit Palästinas mit Antisemitismus ab. 

Den Staat Israel zu kritisieren ist nicht antisemitisch. Die Existenz und den Widerstand von Palästinenser*innen mit Antisemitismus oder Terrorismus gleichzusetzen ist rassistisch und ein Mittel zur Legitimierung des genozidalen Krieges gegen Gaza. Wir weigern uns, falsche Narrative zu glauben, die uns dazu bringen sollen, Genozid zuzulassen. 

6. Schluss

Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass die Unterdrückung von Palästinenser*innen und Jüdinnen*Juden untrennbar miteinander verbunden ist. Lasst uns zusammenkommen gegen Apartheid, Siedlerkolonialismus, Antisemitismus, Rassismus und alle Formen der Spaltung, die von Nationalstaaten aufrechterhalten werden und in rechter Ideologie verankert sind.

Niemand ist frei, solange wir nicht alle frei sind. Niemand ist sicher, solange wir nicht alle sicher sind.

1. Why are we making this statement?

While a genocide is being carried out in Palestine, the leftist scene in Germany has remained largely silent. We acknowledge that even in our own spaces, German guilt and privilege is inhibiting people from taking a stance on war crimes and genocide. We believe we have the responsibility to speak out, as silence will only enforce the racist and unreflected discourses being spread by the German government and media. To the German left: Through your silence you are complicit in the oppression of Palestinians and the bombing of Gaza. Speak out!

2. Situation in Palestine

We stand in solidarity with Palestinians and support the right of all peoples to seek liberation from occupation. While German and Western media refuse to provide context in their reporting, we recognize that the past weeks of violence are a result of 75 years of settler-colonial occupation, apartheid, human rights violations and war crimes committed by the Israeli state and funded and supported by Germany and other Western governments. We mourn all lives lost in Palestine and Israel before, on and after October 7th. We will not look away from the systematic killing and ongoing oppression of Palestinians and we condemn the genocide that is happening in Gaza. We believe that all Palestinians have the right to self-determination and to live in freedom – in their homelands and around the world.

3. Situation in Berlin & Germany

In the last weeks, we have experienced severe violations of our rights to freedom of assembly and opinion in Berlin. Protests in solidarity with Palestine have been relentlessly banned and violently suppressed. The Berlin senate has encouraged a ban on all Palestinian symbols in schools. Police are flooding the streets of Neukölln on a massive scale, targeting people for wearing Kufiyas, Palestinian flags or other symbols, and have arrested hundreds of people, including children, for identifying with or showing solidarity with Palestine. Physical brutality from the police has been extreme: protesters are being dragged, beaten, kicked, pepper sprayed and water canonned.

This repression is then being justified by a racist anti-Muslim discourse which equates Arab identities and criticism of the Israeli state with anti-semitism and terrorism. We do not accept this narrative, and we stand against the violent suppression of Palestinian grief, anger and political opinion. We also reject the oppression of Jewish people critical of the Israeli state, whose right to protest and whose critiques of Israeli war crimes are also being suppressed and absurdly labeled as anti-semitic.

4. Connection to deportations

The German state is now threatening to deport people who stand with Palestinians and criticize the Israeli state, particularly Palestinians and other Arab people arrested at protests. State repression is being turned into a channel for deportation and a means of fueling the German border regime.

We call on the government to immediately stop the repression of Palestinians and those who stand with them through protest bans, police brutality and threat of deportation. We do not accept state silencing. We must ensure that these voices are heard, without risk of violence or loss of residency.

5. Racism & anti-semitism

Even if the German, Israeli and other Western states want us to believe otherwise: calling out violence, apartheid and war crimes against Palestinians is not anti-semitic. Anti-semitism has historically been a product of right-wing nationalist ideology in Germany and Europe. While the vast majority of anti-semitic crimes in Germany are committed by the far-right, responsibility for anti-semitism is now being falsely outsourced to Palestinians, Arab-read people and migrant communities. This narrative is not only racist, but is dangerous in that it distracts us from the real threat of the rising AfD and other anti-semitic actors.

We stand against antisemitism wherever it happens, in whatever context and we reject the equation of the Free Palestine movement with anti-semitism. 

To criticize the state of Israel is not anti-semitic. To equate Palestinian existence and resistance with anti-semitism or terrorism is racist and a means of legitimizing the genocidal war on Gaza. We refuse to accept false narratives which prime us to permit genocide. 

6. End

We believe that the oppression of Palestinians and Jewish people are connected and that we must unite against apartheid, settler-colonialism, anti-semitism, racism and all forms of division upheld by nation-states and rooted in right-wing ideology.

None of us are free until all of us are free. None of us are safe until all of us are safe.

Europe, through its role in fostering conflicts, perpetuating injustices, encouraging arms trade, dictating EU policies, influencing living standards, upholding white supremacy, and sustaining colonial legacies, has compelled countless individuals to flee their homelands.
Yet, those who reach the Western shores find themselves subjected to unequal treatment, encountering violations of their rights, and facing militarized European borders that have resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. Furthermore, upon arrival, they are often relegated to isolation in camps and denied their fundamental human rights and needs.

We never hear in the media about daily racial profiling against Black, indigenous and people of color in migrant and refugees neighborhood!
Germany's dirty history that we until today pay for, with our lives, our bodies and existence is never questioned!
Palestinians are in an atrocious situation, facing a genocide, denied food, water, electricity and shelter. Thousends of children in Gaza have been targeted and killed with the Partnership of the US and the EU. Germany blocked humanitarian aid and is outspokenly supporting and encouraging this genocide.

We must act against all form of repression, to respond to the structural racism in Germany, and to the racism of the society, which sees solidarity through the lens of whiteness and whiteness alone!
