How would you have an officer subdue a violent criminal on a drug like, say, PCP, making him nearly impervious to pain? A PROPERLY applied chokehold results in no pain or long term damage, compared to joint-locks or tasers which often can. Greatly.

I’m all for BETTER training for all law enforcement, but anyone who competes in or watches MMA knows for a fact that many, many careers have been ended from strikes and joint-locks gone wrong. None from chokeholds.

@scrowder I'm not against a chokehold being used under certain circumstances. I AM against a chokehold being used against an unarmed individual while 2-4 other officers stand around and watch.
I am ALL for banning chokeholds if provided with a safer, more easily executed alternative which results in both LESS damage to the perp, and increased safety to the officer. Would genuinely love to hear solutions.
