We call BS on SaaS affiliate hype. No fake 'passive recurring empire' promises — just honest takes on which software programs are actually worth promoting and which are a trap.

Mistake: sending broad traffic to a niche tool
Everyone optimizes for click volume. Cheap, broad traffic converts to trials and then churns at double the rate of qualified traffic — and the program may flag the cohort and reverse the lot for "low quality."

The failure:
— You buy generic intent, signups spike, dashboard looks great.
— Month two retention craters because these people never needed the tool.
— Program quietly cuts your rate or holds payouts citing churn.

Fix: match audience intent to the tool's actual job-to-be-done. Narrower traffic with high fit beats cheap volume on net commission every time. Track retention by source — kill any channel whose 90-day survival is below your portfolio average, no matter how good the front-end ROAS looks.

Verdict: bad-fit traffic doesn't churn. It refunds, reverses, and gets you throttled.
Mistake: 60% of income from one program
Everyone finds their one golden program and goes all in. Then they cut the rate, get acquired, ban your traffic source, or shut the program — and your income halves overnight with zero notice.

The concentration risk nobody prices in:
— Programs change terms unilaterally. You have no contract leverage.
— A single policy email can zero out your biggest line item.

Fix: cap any single program at ~25% of recurring income. Keep at least 4-5 live programs across different vendors and categories, so no one decision-maker controls your livelihood. Treat every program as if it'll cut your rate next quarter — because the good ones eventually do.

Verdict: a one-program business isn't passive income, it's an unpaid contractor with no severance.
Mistake: ignoring the payout threshold and net terms
Everyone reads the commission rate and skips the payout section. That's where the money gets stranded — high minimum thresholds, net-60 terms, and "earnings expire after inactivity" clauses quietly hold or eat your cash.

Where it bites:
— $200 minimum payout + slow program = balance trapped for months.
— Net-60 on top of a 90-day clawback = you see real cash a quarter and a half after the work.
— Inactivity clauses void unpaid balances if you pause.

Fix: before joining, read payout threshold, payment frequency, net terms, and expiry clauses. Model your true cash-in date, not the conversion date. Avoid programs combining high thresholds with long net terms — that's a liquidity trap dressed as a generous rate.

Verdict: a commission you can't withdraw is a number, not income.

Я — Head of Retention. И в своём канале разбираю ошибки, из-за которых команды месяцами теряют LTV, даже не замечая этого.
Mistake: all your content sells the signup, none sells the stay
Everyone writes "best tool, sign up here." Then they wonder why recurring income doesn't compound. Your content acquires; nothing helps the user succeed and stay subscribed — so they churn and your recurring dies.

The blind spot:
— Recurring commission only compounds if referrals renew.
— Renewal is driven by the user getting value, which your acquisition content does nothing for.

Fix: build a second content layer — onboarding guides, advanced use cases, workflow tutorials for the exact tools you promote. It lifts your referrals' retention, which lifts your net recurring. This is the one lever an affiliate actually has over churn.

Verdict: acquisition content gets you the first payment. Success content gets you the next eleven.
Mistake: trusting the program's churn number
Everyone takes the vendor's "we have low churn" at face value. Vendors quote blended logo churn or annual-cohort churn — the flattering definitions — while your monthly referrals churn at a much uglier rate.

The sleight of hand:
— "5% churn" might mean annual revenue churn including expansion, not monthly customer loss.
— Net revenue retention can read >100% while half your individual referrals are gone.

Fix: ignore their headline. Measure your own cohort: of 100 referrals last quarter, how many are still paying now? That's your churn, and it's the only one tied to your commission. Re-measure quarterly — churn drifts as the product and pricing change.

Verdict: their churn metric was chosen by their marketing team. Build your own.

Google выпустил Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash

Mistake: never reconciling your numbers against theirs
Everyone takes the program dashboard as gospel. Tracking breaks silently — pixel misfires, redirect chains, sub-ID drops, cross-device loss — and undercounts you by 10-30% with zero error message. You just see a "slow month."

What goes uncaught:
— Your own click count vs. their reported clicks: a gap means lost tracking.
— Conversions you can verify (coupon redemptions, replies) that never showed in their panel.

Fix: keep your own click and lead logs. Monthly, reconcile yours vs. theirs. A persistent >10% shortfall is a tracking defect to escalate, not random variance. Test your own links from a clean device and a blocker-on browser quarterly.

Verdict: "the numbers are down" is sometimes a market shift and sometimes a broken pixel they'll never tell you about. Check which.

Mistake: getting in early on a pre-product-market-fit SaaS
Everyone wants the "ground floor" program with the generous early rate. Early-stage SaaS has the highest churn, the most pricing chaos, and the worst odds of still paying you in 18 months. You're building on sand for a slightly bigger cut.

The failure modes:
— They pivot, and the audience you built for evaporates.
— They run out of money, and your recurring becomes uncollectible.
— They "simplify" the program and your rate vanishes.

Fix: weight your portfolio toward tools with 3+ years of operation, stable pricing, and visible retention. Treat early-stage programs as small, capped experiments — never as a pillar. The generous early rate is hazard pay; size the position accordingly.

Verdict: ground floor is also where the building falls on you.
Mistake: assuming your commission rate is permanent
Hot reminder: programs cut rates retroactively, including on customers you already referred. "You earn 30% for the life of the customer" lasts exactly until they email "effective next month, all partners move to 20%."

Where it hurts:
— Your modeled lifetime value assumed the old rate. It just dropped a third.
— Existing recurring referrals re-price downward, not just new ones.

Fix: model every program at 70% of its current rate as your planning baseline — if it survives the haircut, great. Keep your audience and email list yours, not the program's, so you can re-point them to a competitor the day a rate cut lands. Owning the audience is your only leverage.

Verdict: the rate is a promise with no contract behind it. Plan for the cut before you get the email.
