The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
By: Joseph Murphy
Narrated by: Jason Culp
The way we see Kali at any given moment has everything to do with where we are in our own journey. Whether Kali seems terrifying, fascinating, or loving depends on our state of consciousness and our level of both emotional and spiritual development. But she always invites us to a radical form of ego-transcendence.
Swami Vivekananda, one of the most important Hindu teachers to come to the West in the early twentieth century, deeply understood this truth. In one of his songs, he says:
I am not one of those …
Who put the garland of skulls round thy neck,
And then look back in terror
And call Thee “The Merciful.”
The heart must become a burial ground.
Pride, selfishness, and desire all broken into dust,
Then and then alone will the Mother dance there!

Awakening Shakti by Sally Kempton

How do you live a life of spiritual awakening as well as outer abundance, inner freedom as well as deep intimacy?

How do you serve the world selflessly, yet passionately celebrate your life?

The sages of Tantra have known for centuries that when you follow the path of Shakti — the sacred feminine principle personified by the goddesses of yoga — these gifts can manifest spontaneously. Yet most of us, women as well as men, have yet to experience the full potential of our inner feminine energies.

In Awakening Shakti, you will learn how to recognize and invite:

• Kali, bringer of strength, fierce love, and untamed freedom

• Lakshmi, who confers prosperity and beauty

• Saraswati, for clarity of communication and intuition

• Radha, who carries the divine energy of spiritual longing

• Bhuvaneshvari, who creates the space for sacred transformation

• Parvati, to awaken creativity and the capacity to love

There was once a stag, proud and free, and he talked in a lordly fashion to his child, 'Look at me, see my powerful horns! With one thrust I can kill a man; it is a fine thing to be a stag!'
Just then the sound of the huntsman's bugle was heard in the distance, and the stag precipitately fled, followed by his wondering child. When they had reached a place of safety, he inquired,
'Why do you fly before man, O my father, when you are so strong and brave?'
The stag answered,
'My child, I know I am strong and powerful, but when I hear that sound, something seizes me and makes me fly whether I will or no.'
So with us. We hear the 'bugle sound' of the laws laid down in the books, habits and old superstitions lay hold of us; and before we know it, we are fast bound and forget our real nature which is freedom.

There is a difference between attachment and caring. Care for your body, don’t be attached to your body; care your family, but don’t be attached to your family. The moment you care, you will contribute; the moment you care, you will connect wisely. The moment you are attached, your subject gets superimposed on the object. Attachment speaks of your qualities that you nourish; attachment speaks of the lower center in you. Caring speaks of the higher centers in you. The lower center operates from attachment while the higher center operates from caring energy.

Adi Shankaracharya composed a number of Vedantic works for imparting the knowledge of the Self. One of these hymns is the famous “Bhaja Govindam”. ‘Bhaja’ literally means ‘seek’, ‘Govindam’ means ‘the Lord’ – ‘the Truth’. The learned masters, out of deep compassion try to wake up humanity. They invite us to open our eyes to a higher dimension of living. The whole text of Bhaja Govindam in essence means ‘Wake up, seek the Lord, and stop seeking the primitive and superficial things in life.’ The compilation of thoughts presented in this book is applicable to one and all. Swami Sukhabodhananda in his unique style explains the verses with deep clarity and understanding.
