Starship SN10 Flight Test No. 1 Discussion & Updates Thread
Welcome to the r/SpaceX Starship SN10 High-Altitude Hop Hop Discussion & Updates Thread!Hi, this is your host team with u/ModeHopper bringing you live updates on this test.Quick Linksr/SpaceX Starship Development Resources | Starship Development Thread | SN10 Development HistorySPADRE LIVE | LABPADRE LIVE | NSF LIVE - TBA | EDA LIVE - TBA | SPACEX on YOUTUBESpaceX/EDA/NSF/LabPadre Multistream - TBAStarship Serial Number 10 - Hop TestStarship SN10, equipped with three sea-level Raptor engines will attempt a high-altitude hop at SpaceX's development and launch site in Boca Chica, Texas. For this test, the vehicle will ascend to an altitude of approximately 12.5km (unconfirmed), before moving from a vertical orientation (as on ascent), to horizontal orientation, in which the broadside (+ x) of the vehicle is oriented towards the ground. At this point, Starship will attempt an unpowered return to launch site (RTLS), using the it's aerodynamic control surfaces (ACS) to adjust its attitude and fly a course back to the landing pad. In the final stages of the descent, all three Raptor engines will ignite to transition the vehicle to a vertical orientation and perform a propulsive landing. The flight profile is likely to follow closely the previous Starship SN8 and SN9 (hopefully with a slightly less firey landing). The exact launch time may not be known until just a few minutes before launch, and will be preceded by a local siren about 10 minutes ahead of time.Test windowNET 01-03-2021 14:00 - 02-03-2021 00:30 UTC (08:00 - 18:30 CST)Backup date(s)March 2, 3Static fireCompleted February 25Flight profile12.5km altitude RTLS (unconfirmed)PropulsionRaptors SN50, SN39 and SN?? @nextspaceflight on Twitter: Benji Reed (SpaceX): Notes that by flying Falcon 9 rockets so often, they are learning more about the launch vehicle. An anomaly during the recent Starlink mission was due to a boot having a hole in it during ascent. An engine was shutdown safely as a result.
