People think that the world's problems are a resource problem. Oh a space mission? What a waste of resources! Look at earth! Fix our earthly problems first!
We don't have homelessness because of lack of resources. We don't have war because of a lack of resources. While those things are theoretically possible, they're not particularly common anymore. Priority is itself a resource and a lot of people's priorities are fucked. The Romans didnβt stop maintaining their cities because they built roads to new frontiers. The British didnβt stop industrial progress because they mapped the globe. Just because one person worked hard towards civilizational strides doesn't mean theyre simultaneously throwing someone under the bus. You are the one throwing yourself under the bus. A lot of people don't want to be the change they wish to see in the world, so they bitterly chain everyone to the mud with them. They can only think in false dichotomies with no alternatives and solutions.
