Learn to land journalist quotes and authority links step by step: how to read queries, write a pitch that gets picked, and turn a mention into a backlink.

You got quoted and then did nothing about it

Getting mentioned is step one. Many beginners celebrate, then leave that mention to gather dust — never turning it into a lasting benefit.

Think of it like winning a prize and forgetting to pick it up.

1. When an article publishes, check whether it links to your site. If not, politely email the reporter once, thanking them and offering your site as a source link for readers.
2. Save the published piece — it's proof you're a credible source for future pitches.
3. Mention it lightly in your next reply: "recently quoted in [outlet] on this topic."

A link request right after publication often lands, because you've just delivered value and you're fresh in their mind.

Try this today: Find one past mention with no link to you. Send one short, kind thank-you-and-ask email.

You answered everything and got good at nothing

When you reply to every query, even ones far from your expertise, your answers go thin and generic. Reporters can smell a stretch.

Think of it like applying to 50 jobs with the same letter. Volume doesn't fix a weak fit.

1. Pick 2-3 narrow topics you genuinely know cold.
2. Only answer queries that land squarely in those lanes.
3. Spend the saved time making those few replies excellent.

A reporter who gets one sharp, clearly-expert answer from you remembers you. Ten mediocre ones just train them to skip your name.

Try this today: Write down your 3 real expertise lanes on a sticky note. Next session, ignore every query outside them — even tempting ones.
You wrote 600 words and the reporter read none

A long, wandering reply feels generous. To a reporter under deadline it feels like homework, and homework gets skipped.

Think of it like answering "what time is it?" with the history of clocks.

1. Aim for 100-150 words total per reply.
2. Give one tight answer, one supporting detail, one credibility line. Stop.
3. If you have three angles, send your single best — don't make them choose.

Short doesn't mean shallow. It means you did the editing so the reporter doesn't have to. That's a gift they reward.

Try this today: Take a past reply and cut it in half without losing the core point. Whatever survives is usually the strong part.
The reporter loved your quote but couldn't reach you

A reporter sometimes wants a quick follow-up: confirm a fact, get your exact title, ask one more thing. If you didn't leave clear contact details, they pick someone easier.

Think of it like nailing the audition and forgetting to leave your phone number.

1. End every reply with a tidy signature: full name, title, company, and the best way to reach you fast.
2. Spell out exactly how your name should appear in print.
3. If you offer a call, say your timezone and rough availability.

Reporters move fast. Removing every reason for them to hesitate makes you the easy yes.

Try this today: Build one clean sign-off block with name, title, link, and reply-fast email. Paste it at the bottom of every pitch from now on.

Я — Head of Retention.
You stretched the truth and got fact-checked out

To sound impressive, beginners round "some customers" up to "everyone" or claim a trend they can't back. Good reporters verify, and one shaky claim kills the whole quote.

Think of it like one wobbly leg sinking the whole table.

1. Only state what you can actually support if asked.
2. Use honest hedges where needed: "in our experience," "for the clients we've seen."
3. If you cite a number, be ready to say where it came from.

Reporters protect their credibility fiercely. A source who's careful and honest becomes a go-to. A source who oversells gets quietly blacklisted.

Try this today: Re-read a recent claim you made. Could you defend it with real evidence in one email? If not, soften it to what's true.

Think of it like…

Try this today:
You can't remember which pitches worked

Beginners fire off replies and never write down what they sent. So they repeat weak approaches and can't tell what's actually landing.

Think of it like fishing all day without noticing which bait got the bites.

1. Keep one simple sheet: date, outlet, query topic, did it get used.
2. After a few weeks, look for patterns — which topics, lengths, or angles convert.
3. Do more of what worked; quietly drop what never does.

You don't need fancy software. A free spreadsheet beats memory every time, and the patterns it reveals are worth more than any single pitch.

Try this today: Make a 4-column tracking sheet right now. Log your next reply. In a month you'll have real data, not guesses.

Google выпустил Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash
