The warmth from our very first Bayan Ko event is still with us, and we hope it's still with you, too. Thank you for singing chants, eating pancit and ginataang gulay, making banners, and sharing the weight of the Philippine struggle.
We watched three short films: Sabangan, 1983 (Dam), Lunod, 2024 (Drown), and Dagami Daytoy,2019 (This is our Land). Each film asked us to look at what we take from our environment and what gets taken as a result of that. The films explored indigenous displacement, environmental destruction, and community-led resistance, for and with the land. The programme was followed by a chant and banner-making workshop using bilao (bee-lah-oh). Bilao is a bamboo-woven flat basket used for winnowing rice. The workshop gave us some of the richest conversations of the night. Thank you for your beautiful work! Swipe to see them - they'll also be exhibited at the next Bayan Ko screening.
Safe to say we're going to need a bigger venue next time, if you have any ideas, please get in touch!
If you want to stay in the loop on future screenings, campaigns, and fundraisers, join our community and share the spirit of bayanihan! This is just the start, and if youβre keen to get involved, please join the group chat
We also have a feedback form in our bio, please fill out, weβre always looking to make the screenings better and better.
We hope to see you at the next one! π΅π

The carving up of Syria by imperialist powers has accelerated to an unprecedented pace since the fall of the Baβathist government in December 2024. From the US-backed HTS committing countless atrocities to the Turkish-backed SNA attempting to extinguish the revolution in Rojava. We are collaborating with Scottish Solidarity with Kurdistan to bring you an evening of solidarity.
We will begin the evening with a presentation running us through the history of Rojava and update on the current situation in the region. Following that will watch a short and a feature film, engaging with historic and contemporary expressions of peopleβs resistance for dignity and freedom. We will end the night with live music and discussion. We hope you join us to raise funds, to celebrate resistance, and to honour life - to show that the people, and the people alone, are the makers of history.
