The Amazon isn't burning. It's being burnt. That's because monetary profits see the rainforest as a waste but if you burn it down and grow food or palm trees there then it's worth something.
It's even harder for right wing conservative groups to see things of global natural significance but within their nation as something to be saved instead of exploited. Be it the Amazon Rainforest, Great Barrier Reef or the forests "covering" the Alberta Tar Sands.

Steps to an Ecology of Systems: Whole Earth and Systemic Holism
Date: 2011
Author: Bruce Clark
"In this essay I give the term holism some precision as naming a systems discourse that is still framed to some extent in a traditional part/whole manner, and which, as a consequence, encounters the problematics of totalization. With some important exceptions, holism in this sense is still at work in many of the American-based cybernetics and systems discourses that run from 1968-71 through the expanding iterations of the Whole Earth Catalog, and from 1974-84 through its quarterly journalistic spin-off, CoEvolution Quarterly. Visions of global unity are accorded ultimate value. As parts of the biosphere, organisms, species, societies, and their technologies may co-evolve, but it is the whole Earth that gathers them into an ecological union rendered as a singular totality.[...]"

"[...]If governments and industry had the ability to radically affect the scale and scope of positive change we need, I would be supportive of alliances with them. But I am convinced that not only are governments and industry NOT capable of solving our problems; they ARE the problem. That’s why the World Summit is about bypassing — not fighting — our existing systems to create new ones.
[...]
It’s time to address the structural root cause of our problems that so many ecovillages in good faith are wanting to respond to…our outdated socio-economic system, which includes both the economic system and our political system as two sides of the same coin. But here’s the two critically important points to understand that can help us make the mental shift:
1) It is POSSIBLE to flip our paradigm
2) It is possible to flip the paradigm SOON, in a year or two
When we see this, as does the World Summit, as not only a possibility, but a necessity, then it changes everything. It changes where we decide to place our focus.
[...]
Let’s build the entire world as one global eco-village, one that works for everyone in sustainable harmony with the earth and all sentient beings. Sound impossible? Let me tell you…it is getting more and more possible every day. When the bio-psycho-social pressures become great enough what once seemed radical becomes practical. As the daily news reports suggest, we are getting very close to some radically practical emergence."

Tropical Storm Dorian has just been upgraded to Hurricane Dorian as it's winds have surpassed 75 mph. The NHC are projecting it to become a major hurricane before landfall in Florida, will be watching this and posting anything interesting about it in here.

Models are mostly pointing to Hurricane Dorian being a strong Category 3 or a Category 4 at landfill, this is going to be a very strong storm.

Hurricane Dorian has unexpectedly undergone rapid intensification and is now a Category 4 hurricane, most models have it having some impact on the Florida coast and all have it making a direct impact on Great Abaco, the forecast this far out is still iffy but it's not a good situation

The boiling effect is caused by the updrafts of very strong thunderstorms

A very odd turn of events for the model tracks now showing the possibility of landfall in south carolina or even georgia.

Keep in mind if the storm moves 1 mph slower than the NHC is predicting, it makes it's turn north 48 miles further east, and out at sea, than the current track. However, the same holds true if it's faster, which will then put it 48 miles further west and it will go up the entire peninsula. The forecast is really touch and go for the mainland US, but unfortunately it seems no matter what, the Bahamas are going to be taking a direct hit from a very powerful Category 4 hurricane, not good news at all.
