#FeaturedBug - Since it's March, let's talk about march flies! Specifically, the love bug (Plecia nearctica). The one pictured is a male, as evidenced by the larger head and eyes (credit to Perry Babin on BugGuide). These flies will swarm in very large numbers during their mating seasons. The adults are able to mate as soon as they eclose, and will stay connected during copulation, which can last several days. They are even able to fly together this way.
