Words matter. When writing prose, the way you present characters needs to be human. They need motive. They need morals, even if that means they have none. They need to be somehow distinguishable from the other 200 some odd characters in your book. Writing is art. And my new nemesis, Greg Weissman, has no concept of the meaning of the word.
A 10k year old dragon whose intellect is so vast that his speech often appears as mathematical equations rather than actual words would not say "Don't screw this up Zarek." A healer known for his skill as a tactician would not say, '"Aye girl", grinning his leonin grin.' Look for yourselves at snippets from The War of the Spark novel and you'll find loads of this kind of writing. In fact the book is so chock full of this bullshit I'm certain every character is simply a carbon copy of Weissman himself, because an outsider looking in would not know any of these characters apart from their speech patterns and mannerisms. Weissman cannot write. And some people should not be allowed to take the reins of art when they don't grasp the concept of it. He has, in his idiocy, ruined 25 years of storytelling with 2 throwaway sentences.
