UPSC Final Results are Expected Any Day Now. Before we immerse ourselves in the jubilations, exhilarations and exultations extolling and singing hymns about the ones who will make it through, sharing something that I’ve felt deeply, but others might disagree with me on. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” Being a teacher of UPSC, this exam is, and always will be, an existence surrounded with a sea of failure. They say, the best idea then to maintain your sanity might be to just get used to it. Failure is a topic discussed in every course or test series there ever is in this multiverse of delirium and unreasonableness. That how not attending this or that course or not doing enough practice will ensure your doom as a candidate. This too, then, becomes an industry that sprinkles fear in every product it attempts to dole out. When I started pursuing teaching for UPSC as a more determined career, I wanted to make the preparation more wholesome. I wanted the preparation to be more focused on building a character, an attitude, a willingness that also heeds and is mindful of becoming an increasingly better version of oneself. A more knowledgeable version of oneself. A happier version of oneself. To pursue things that bring more life into our lives. To be persevering and not be bogged down easily with setbacks. Where success is not entirely measured in terms of the final rank one secures. And to make it not entirely about the ones who made it to the final list. But as time passed, I increasingly lost touch with this solemn declaration of myself to myself. I now want to bring it back. I now want to bring back the more holistic side of living. The more living it daily, not soaked in fear, side of living. To return to the fact that lingerie might be what stimulates us but what is comfortable in long term, everyday life is a cotton underwear. That what might be glamorous might not be the most pleasant to put up with daily. That as much as coaching centers want to make it about the ones who do it, to me it is still about those who tried irrespective if they made it to β€œThe List” or were assigned to be the ones who were called β€œThe Lost”. Because for me, they just failed a test. And that to me, was never the point.
