India survived the 1991 geopolitical earthquake, but are we ready for todayโ€™s global shocks.

Here are 3 brutal foreign policy lessons every strategic mind must know.

โ€‹Drawing parallels between Indiaโ€™s 1991 crises and todayโ€™s upheavals

C. Raja Mohan outlines three core lessons for managing global disruption:

The global balance of power is transient. Foreign policy must avoid sentimental alignments, focusing instead on objective assessments of partner nations.

Unpredictability is a permanent feature of international relations.

A rigid consensus creates strategic blind spots. Policy institutions must actively encourage contrarian judgments, challenge legacy assumptions, and invest heavily in specialized regional expertise.

Diplomatic maneuvering alone cannot insulate a country from systemic external shocks.

Opinion Poll
Hi all,

We conducted a poll this morning about your preparation schedule.

Many students are lacking behind their schedule and many don't even have one.

And the biggest issue is making a schedule that is simply not practical.

Keeping in mind all these dimensions, Ayush Sir conducted a session on a practical UPSC 2027 study plan to complete the syllabus, revise effectively and prepare for Prelims and Mains together.

Here is the link to the YT session.

Hi all,

I found an article in The Hindu today that is relevant for UPSC

Continuing our Key Environment Jargons Series

Today the word is Zoopharmacognosy.

Ever wondered how animals treat their own illnesses?

Zoopharmacognosy is the process by which non-human animals instinctively self-medicate using plants, soils, insects, or fungi to treat or prevent diseases.

Key Points

Biodiversity Loss:
Deforestation doesn't just reduce food; it destroys the "natural pharmacies" wildlife rely on.

Ethnobotany:
Many human medicines were discovered by observing these exact animal behaviors.
Examples:

Chimpanzees: Swallow rough Aspilia leaves whole. The chemical thiarubrine-A acts as an anthelmintic to expel intestinal worms.

African Elephants: Pregnant females eat Ehretia cymosa leaves to induce labor.

Macaws: Eat riverbank clay (Geophagy) to neutralize toxic alkaloids found in unripe seeds.

Wood Ants: Use conifer resin (rich in terpenes) in their nests for its antimicrobial properties against fungi/bacteria.

Capuchin Monkeys: Rub crushed millipedes on their fur the toxic benzoquinones act as a potent mosquito repellent.
