- Known for rich biodiversity, fisheries, and wetland ecosystem functions.

- State: Andhra Pradesh.

- Districts: Krishna and West Godavari
Rivers associated.

- Located in the inter-deltaic plain of the Krishna and Godavari rivers.

- Fed by seasonal streams, irrigation canals, and drainage systems linked to both rivers.

- Acts as a natural flood-balancing reservoir for the Krishna–Godavari system

✅ Geological and physical features :

- Inter-deltaic freshwater basin enabling seasonal water storage and groundwater recharge.

- Shallow wetland with low depth and wide areal spread

- Moderates floods by absorbing excess monsoon runoff.

- Nutrient-rich alluvial sediments supporting high aquatic productivity.

✅ Significance :

- Declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1999

- Designated as a Ramsar Wetland in 2002
